Last week, a global technology outage created widespread issues with airlines, financial industries, hospitals, and others. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of you in WashU IT and our distributed IT partners for your quick, coordinated response in implementing mitigation measures.
Neither WashU, nor our BJC partners, were immune from this outage, which affected many windows servers with CrowdStrike cybersecurity software worldwide. But the impact we experienced was minimal. While our vendor, CrowdStrike, acted swiftly to correct a flawed software update that had been deployed, leading to the disruptions experienced across industries, our internal monitoring processes allowed us to catch the issue early. Thanks to our coordinated and comprehensive response, our major systems including Workday, ARCH, and Epic, and our physical security, camera, and identity management systems all remained operational.
We are continuing to support BJC IT in its efforts at the desktop level but are proud to close this major incident due to the hard work and dedication of our amazing teams. Thank you for the wonderful work you do each day to support each other, and to ensure tech is enabled and secure for our customers.
