WashU faculty, staff, and students now have access to Box AI, an innovative new tool that integrates generative artificial intelligence directly into the Box cloud storage platform. Whether drafting reports, analyzing research data, or managing large volumes of content, Box AI can help streamline workflow, enhance productivity, and provide deeper insights into stored documents.
Box AI is already available and can be used immediately. It provides AI-powered assistance to the files stored in Box, allowing users to interact with and extract valuable information from content easily.

How Can Box AI Help?
Box AI provides advanced content generation and insight capabilities, similar to other leading generative AI tools on the market. Through its use, the user will have the added benefit of:
- Summarization – Quickly generate concise summaries of lengthy documents, research papers, or meeting notes, helping you extract key points at a glance.
- Content Analysis – Identify trends, key insights, and patterns in large datasets or complex reports.
- Text Generation – Create high-quality content for emails, reports, proposals, and other written communications.
- Enhanced Collaboration – Enable teams to interact more effectively with shared content by making information more accessible and actionable.
- Search & Discovery – Quickly find relevant content within large files without scanning documents manually.
Whether working on research projects, administrative tasks, or student engagement, Box AI offers a valuable toolset to improve efficiency, reduce time spent on repetitive tasks, and enhance overall productivity.
Security and Responsible Use of AI
Security and compliance remain top priorities as AI tools become more integrated into daily work. WashU has had a Business Associate Agreement (BAA) with Box since 2019, ensuring that sensitive university data is protected when stored and processed within the platform.
Additionally, WashU’s Information Security Office is currently working to formalize generative AI policies to ensure the safe and responsible use of AI tools like Box AI. Until these policies are finalized, users should follow existing AI guidelines provided by WashU IT.
