At WashU IT, we’re dedicated to meeting students where they are—and for new students, that means being present from day one. That’s why Tech Den proactively reached out to all Washington University in St. Louis schools to participate in their student orientation events.
“It’s essential for us to connect with students face-to-face, creating a welcoming environment where they feel comfortable seeking tech support,” says Scott Markovich, Assistant Director of Tech Den. “By being present at their schools and events, we’re not just offering assistance—we’re building a community. We’re here to ensure every WashU student feels supported, and we’re excited to keep fostering these connections.”
The Tech Den at 6214 Forsyth Blvd serves the technology needs of commuter, graduate, and professional students, offering a wide range of services such as laptop repair and loaner devices, virus and malware removal, software support, Wi-Fi support, remote assistance, and even a 3D printing program that allows students to efficiently turn their ideas into high-quality prototypes for class, research, or personal use. Meanwhile, Student Technology Services (STS) on the South 40 focuses on supporting WashU residential students. “It’s important for residential students to become familiar with Tech Den early in their WashU journey, as they will eventually graduate from STS to Tech Den when they move off campus. If they already know Tech Den, our services and the team when it happens, it’s a seamless transition,” explains Markovich.
Rick Herman, Executive Director of End-User Services, emphasizes the unified approach of our student technology resource groups: “As a unit, through Tech Den and STS, we are committed to providing inclusive, sustainable, and secure digital solutions that enhance all students’ living and learning experiences.”
