The WashU IT team is proud to have contributed to the development and opening of the new Siteman Cancer Center (SCC). This high-tech, state-of-the-art facility is nine stories, 657,250 square feet, and located at Forest Park and Taylor Avenue.
With an emphasis on multi-disciplinary care and enhanced connections between research and clinical, the SCC consolidates cancer services under the same roof. Now cancer patients can continue to engage with world-class experts at one convenient location to receive better, more coordinated outpatient care.
During this project, the WashU IT team shared its expertise, in partnership with Ergotron, to create a handicap accessible Welcome Kiosk. With out of the box thinking and the incorporation of multiple add-ons, patients are now able to check in for appointments easier. The Welcome Kiosk has the ability for the patients to scan their insurance card into EPIC using the attached card scanner and pay any co-pays using the attached credit card machine. These efficiencies provide an improved customer experience that allows patients to get in (and out) of care appointments quicker and back to their daily lives.
The WashU Project team also spent many hours working to integrate vital machine results with EPIC. The vital machine is now able to be connected to the computer via USB and the results can be uploaded directly into the patient’s charts inside EPIC with just a couple clicks of the mouse. This helps eliminate typos and saves time. The team provided an excellent customer experience to the SCC team by sharing their knowledgebase to help equip the BJC machines for this capability as well.
Fun Fact: the design and construction of the exterior curtain wall of the building is unique, representing DNA strands (constructed from vertical metal fins) which are depicted in Siteman’s signature blue. Depending upon how the sunlight hits the strands, they’ll look dynamic.
Great work WashU IT. The SCC promise to deliver the highest standards of care and innovation for our community.
