Message from Jessie Minton, Vice Chancellor & Chief Information Officer

Now that Thanksgiving is behind us, and December holidays and festivities are on the horizon, it is the perfect time to reflect on our journey during the last 12 months. I would like to express how proud I am to be part of an organization that cares about our community and the people in it. This gratitude for the spirit of giving to those in need was so evident as our teams met the needs of families in the 100 Neediest Cases and Epworth, as well as the United Way campaigns.

Coming to WashU IT eight months ago, I look on this time with a grateful heart. I would like to take this opportunity to recognize our entire teams 2022 accomplishments. There is no one area more important than another, and we could not do all that we do without each and every person on our team.

In our busy lives, we do not always take time to celebrate accomplishments. I am so proud of the hard work and commitment demonstrated by our talented WashU IT professionals. I am grateful to be part of the momentum at WashU right now; we are in a pivotal moment as we embark upon the Here and Next strategic plan. In the coming months, I am looking forward to unveiling our own WashU IT Strategic Plan; which is shaped by Here and Next, and forges the path for our intentional future.

As we look to 2023 and beyond, there are five goals guiding our steps. We are working to build our IT strategic plan in concert with the University’s overarching framework, Here and Next, inspiring its direction. We will implement a new IT Governance and Portfolio Prioritization process.

The next three goals extend beyond 2023 and include restructuring the IT funding model; implementing Research Infrastructure Services, and introducing a Cybersecurity Five Year Road Map. We will enhance the Research Storage Platform core infrastructure, blending in new hardware and software technologies. This will allow us to expand features and enhance security for role-based access controls, offsite disaster recovery and ransomware protections, and operational management improvements.

As we take stock of our accomplishments and look to the next half of our fiscal year, I want to wish each of you a fantastic holiday. Whether you will be surrounded by family and friends, or celebrating your faith or traditions, I hope you enjoy your time and make lifelong memories to cherish. Please take time for yourselves, to rest and to recharge as well. I am looking forward to ushering in a prosperous 2023 with you. I am confident we will have an exciting and eventful year ahead.
