The Capacity Management Corner: Improve capacity management using Planview PPM Pro

The WashU IT Capacity Management project team is busy working to improve WashU IT capacity management using Planview PPM Pro! Why is Capacity Management important?  Click here to find out (PDF).

Why are we making a change?

Enhanced use of Planview PPM Pro for managing capacity and allocation data will lead to better decision making and resource utilization. We need your help. We plan to show you how this important tool fits within the guiding principles of our ImpacT Strategic Plan, allowing us to make more effective use of our time, ensuring fiscal responsibility, and elevating service delivery.

This project will proceed through various phases to delve into identified enhancement opportunities and develop processes and solutions to make our overall experience even better. Such opportunities include:

  • Resolving challenges with inconsistent processes and bringing a cohesive method for collecting and utilizing data to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Establishing data-driven metrics to address deficiencies in managing resource availability and commitment.

This will allow us, as an organization, to:

  • Learn user-friendly methods to enhance the benefits of Planview.
  • Consistently produce meaningful reporting for resource managers, project managers, and senior leadership.
  • Accurately forecast and optimize resources for projects and operational work.
  • Improve Service Delivery by ensuring that the right resources are available when needed.
  • Reconcile funding regularly using accurate data for hours worked and for planned work.

The improvements we make today will lead to lasting benefits and build success in the future.
