WashU is excited to offer secure, scalable, cost-effective, unified API (Application Programming Interface) access to cutting-edge generative AI models. Designed for faculty, researchers and staff, the platform supports integration with sandboxed endpoints hosted within WashU’s Azure tenant, which is approved for sensitive data, including HIPAA and FERPA.
This will result in ease of access to powerful AI tools. WashU clients can tap directly into advanced models, such as GPT-4.1, GPT-5, and Grok-3, through a secure, unified API endpoint that is pre-configured with default content and safety filters. That means clients can build intelligent apps, automate tasks and analyze data using the same chat completion and embedding models behind cutting-edge AI tools.
Because the endpoints are hosted within WashU’s Azure tenant and approved for HIPAA and FERPA data, WashU clients can safely use it for sensitive healthcare, education, and research projects. VPN-only access and OAuth 2.0 authentication keep data protected.
Additionally, usage billing was simplified, while still providing flexible usage. WashU clients can:
- Only pay for tokens used
- Set a fixed budget for API usage to avoid surprise charges
- Monitor token usage in real-time
- Easily request a budget increase for additional usage
- Be billed for usage monthly
WashU customers can explore endpoint features by browsing to Secure API access to AI endpoints or request access by submitting a ServiceNow request to obtain your API credentials (Client ID and Secret).
