Service Portfolio project progress

The Service Portfolio project continues to make significant progress as one of the four foundational initiatives supporting WashU IT’s Operating Model and FY27 goals.

A well-defined Service Portfolio creates a common understanding of the services WashU IT delivers and the value provided.

The Service Portfolio initiative:

  • Improves clarity by making IT services easier to understand and navigate
  • Enhances communication through a common language shared across IT and university partners
  • Streamlines service management with more effective tracking, reporting and governance
  • Enables better decision-making through structured service analysis and planning
  • Supports automation and scalability by driving consistency across systems and processes

Over the last several months, the Service Portfolio team has achieved several milestones. Service owners have been assigned and completed training that equips them with the knowledge and tools needed to manage and improve IT services.

Service definitions, attributes and value statements have been crafted and documented as a way to support consistent service management practices. Service Portfolio tools have been deployed and initial service structure within ServiceNow Service Builder has been established.

Through the collaboration with service owners to refine service definitions and attributes, the Service Portfolio Management Practice Guide was published, aligning with industry standards and operational best practices. This guide will provide ongoing governance and operational guidance relative to WashU IT services.

Stayed tuned for more great work coming out of this team.
