Enhance knowledge with the upcoming Introduction to HPC Training Series

Research Infrastructure Services (RIS) is excited to announce an upcoming Introduction to HPC (High Performance Computing) Training Series. These workshops are designed for those with little to no HPC knowledge, as well as beginners looking to improve their HPC skills.

Training sessions available:

• Introduction to Open OnDemand (OOD) Best for: Researchers just starting out with HPC and with no command-line knowledge. Topic covered: How to use OOD to get access to HPC resources to perform analysis. Date and Time: June 10, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM CDT. Registration is open.

• Introduction to Command Line Best for: Researchers who want to learn the Linux-based command line for HPC. Topics covered: How to use basic Linux Command Line commands and Compute2 basic jobs. Date and Time: June 17, 2026, from 1:00 AM to 2:30 PM CDT. Registration is open

• Beyond Basics: Unlocking RIS Best for: Researchers who have been using OOD or very basic command-line jobs and need more in-depth analysis. Topics covered: A myriad of ways to enhance your analyses, including moving from OOD to command line jobs, data life cycle management, job efficiency, and more. Date and Time: June 24, 2026, from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM CDT. Registration is open

Reasons to Attend:

As research requires more computational resources, using HPC platforms is becoming commonplace. These workshops provide the hands-on skills needed to:

• Begin Using HPC Resources: Be able to do analyses beyond your personal computer.

• Understand Linux Command Line: Learn the language that runs the research world.

• Adapt and Expand HPC Understanding: Learn how to move beyond the beginning steps and how to better administrate your HPC needs.

Prerequisites: These courses are for users with little to no knowledge of HPC systems. There are no real prerequisites. To follow along, attendees will need a RIS Compute2 account. To gain access to Compute2, onboarding with RIS is required

RIS encourages attendees to take advantage of these training opportunities to expand the

boundaries of their research. For further inquiries, contact the RIS Service Desk.
