Synergetic efforts exemplify IT’s expertise as an AI technological powerhouse

WashU’s IT leadership is praising the “expert and diligent” efforts of its technical teams following the successful launch of several high-profile artificial intelligence initiatives across the Danforth and Medical School campuses.

The rollout, a coordinated effort between WashU IT, the Office of the Provost, the Division of Computational & Data Sciences (DI2) and the Center for Health AI (CHAI), has significantly expanded the university’s digital toolkit. The collaboration has already seen the successful deployment of Google Gemini to both campuses, as well as a targeted pilot of ChatGPT Edu for select Danforth undergraduates.

“The AI initiative at WashU exemplifies how working together across teams and business units makes WashU IT a stronger force,” Greg Hart, WashU IT chief technology officer stated. “Thank you to all teams involved in this important work. Your efforts have made us ready to equip the university with timely, efficient and expert technological advancements.”

The department is also celebrating the success of the “AI Literacy Foundations” program. Initially launched within IT, the program is scheduled to expand to the entire Washington University staff later this month. The final curriculum reflects a collaborative internal process, incorporating feedback and insights provided by IT members during the initial phase.

Beyond the university-wide enterprise tools, various IT teams are currently developing specialized AI components. these projects are designed to provide tailored support for researchers, clinical care units, and business operations, moving beyond simple chat interfaces into functional, integrated technology.

Looking ahead, WashU IT leadership signaled that the work is far from over. Future phases of the AI roadmap include more advanced and sophisticated enterprise level tools shaped for higher education.

“Stay tuned for even more exciting programs,” said Hart, urging IT members to continue their momentum as the university enters the next phase of its technological evolution.
