Reminder: Complete annual HIPAA Refresher Training before June 30

As the end of the fiscal year approaches, employees are reminded to complete the mandatory HIPAA Refresher Training requirement. Assigned July 1, 2025, all staff members should verify whether they have completed the training by checking their status in Workday.

Those who have not yet completed the module can do so via Workday or attend a live training session being offered for WashU IT and distributed IT partners through the WashU Office of HIPAA Compliance. fulfill the requirement through a live training session at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, June 2. The opportunity was added to outlook calendars for WashU IT employees and distributed IT partners across campus.

The training sessions available through Zoom were organized by the WashU HIPAA Compliance Office and are uniquely tailored for Information Technology (IT) perspectives, moving away from standard patient care or research-heavy scenarios to focus on the technical and security aspects of data privacy.

Why Attend the Live Session?

The live sessions provide an engaging environment to hear directly from university leadership. The training will be led by:

  • Christine Schorb, Executive Director and Chief HIPAA Privacy Officer
  • Todd Haverstock, Associate Chief Information Security Officer

How to Check Your Status

Before registering for a live session, employees are encouraged to visit Workday to see if they have already met the requirement for this year. If you are uncertain whether this training applies to your specific role, detailed guidance can be found on the HIPAA Training Information page

Completion of this training is mandatory for all applicable staff to remain compliant with university policy before the close of the fiscal year.
