Starting April 15, only users with a Copilot for Microsoft 365 premium subscription will have access to Copilot in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Users without the premium features will no longer see Copilot in these apps. This change is intended to reserve the full in-app Copilot experience—with advanced reasoning and model choice—for users who are assigned a Microsoft 365 Copilot license.
There are no other changes for users who do not have a Microsoft 365 Copilot license. They will continue to have access to:
- Copilot Chat for secure, AI-powered web chat
- Word, Excel, and PowerPoint agents for chat-first content creation within the Microsoft 365 Copilot app
These adjustments are designed to maintain a high-quality experience for those using full Copilot functionality, while preserving core AI capabilities for all Copilot Chat users.
