WashU IT is excited to announce the launch of the AI Foundations Literacy Program, now available in Workday Learning. This required three-part training must be completed by all WashU IT staff by February 27. It is designed to build a collective, foundational understanding of artificial intelligence (AI) and its responsible application by all members of the WashU IT team.
“A foundational knowledge of AI is necessary for us to fully harness the potential in our work and daily lives,” said Jessie Minton, Vice Chancellor for Technology and Chief Information Officer. “This training will ensure that each person within WashU IT receives the same guidance on how to use these rapidly advancing tools. That is critical as we move from being individual users to a cohesive team.”
Employees will meet SETH (Synthetic Employee That Helps) who will guide them through the curriculum as they learn more about critical areas relative to artificial intelligence including; legal and regulatory compliance, prevention of operational disruptions, and the paramount importance of safeguarding privacy. Once completed, course takers will have gained an essential understanding of core AI functionalities and risks, such as algorithmic drift and generative hallucination, ensuring tools are used accurately, and how knowledge gaps or fabricated information are identified and mitigated. By establishing these fundamental safe practices, the program equips the team to better utilize evolving technology to its fullest advantage while consistently upholding high-quality service standards.
Structured for efficiency and flexibility, the AI Foundations Literacy Program consists of three concise modules, each approximately 20 minutes. With questions, please refer to the FAQs. For those using a Mac, please enable pop-ups before launching the training content, as outlined in KB0200592 – How to configure your web browser to allow pop-up windows.
The AI Foundations Literacy Program underscores WashU IT’s commitment to responsible innovation and continuous professional development, ensuring staff are prepared to navigate and shape the future of technology at the university.
