WashU IT will soon launch the AI Literacy Program: Foundations, a training series to give IT team members foundational knowledge in artificial intelligence. This course equips staff with practical skills for both professional duties and personal task management.
By learning AI’s basic functions and limits, staff can automate routine tasks, analyze data faster, and quickly generate ideas. Used well, these tools can result in up to 40% of productivity gains for team members. “The goal here isn’t just to check a training box. It’s to provide our team with practical and applicable tools,” says Greg Hart, Chief Technology Officer. “I am thrilled to launch this program because it gives our team the foundational knowledge not only to adapt toward the future of technology, but to actively shape it for WashU.”
With this foundation, the team can use AI as a partner to unlock new levels of productivity and creative solutions. The curriculum focuses on delivering applicable knowledge for navigating evolving technology. It is structured into concise courses, each approximately 20 minutes in length. The modules will cover essential topics: AI basics, ethical use of AI, and tips for using AI efficiently and effectively. This program aims to educate and uphold the department’s commitment to meaningful career development, directly connecting new skills to daily work.
All WashU IT staff are required to complete the program by February 27. Teams will be notified when the program is assigned in Workday learning on January 30. Completing each short module will empower attendees with the practical AI skills necessary to enhance daily work and contribute to a culture of continuous growth.
