WashU IT has changed the default behavior for how individuals outside of WashU join Microsoft Teams meetings. Previously individuals in other organizations using Teams might have been held “in the lobby” until a meeting participant admitted them. This setting was changed on November 24, allowing individuals from trusted organizations, such as BJC, to bypass the lobby and be admitted directly into the meeting, thus removing a bar of entry for meeting participants. a
All Microsoft Teams meetings created after November 24 received this new setting. However, this change is not retroactive.
Any existing meetings, including recurring meetings, did not inherit the new settings. Instructions are available for those who would like to adjust an existing meeting to allow individuals from trusted organizations to bypass the lobby:
- Select an existing meeting
- Select Edit
- Select Meeting Options in the upper left
- Change the Who can bypass the lobby drop down to People in my org, trusted orgs, and guests.
- Select Apply
- Select Save on the meeting
