To receive mandatory security updates and check in with inventory systems, all WashU computers must be powered on at least once a month and connected to the system’s network at a campus location or through VPN.
Non-compliance means a device will not receive mandatory, critical security updates. This affects performance, security compliance and could result in being locked out of the device. It can also make a device appear lost or stolen, which could result in a security incident.
This can impact customers in a variety of ways:
- Devices used daily at a WashU Location: No additional steps required for devices that are operated every day at a WashU Location.
- Devices used daily at a Remote Location: These devices should be connected to the WashU Network (via VPN or by coming to a WashU Location) at least once a month.
- Devices used occasionally: Must follow Stay in Sync expectations.
- Turn on the device at least once a month.
- Connect to the Network (at a WashU Location or via VPN) for a day.
