Email SPAM Filtering
If you need to report a SPAM message that has not been marked as SPAM, follow the instructions below:
- Create a new message forwarding the original message as an attachment
- Outlook for Windows: Highlight the message, then in the toolbar next to the Forward button, click More and select Forward as attachment
- Outlook for Mac OS: Right-click the message and select Forward Special then Forward as attachment
- Outlook on the Web (OWA):
- Click +new mail then click the Open in new window icon, located at the top right corner of the message window
- Organize your browser windows so that you can see both your mail folder list and your new message
- Drag the desired email from your mail folder list to the message you are composing
- Copy the subject line of the message you are forwarding and paste it into the subject line of the new message you are about to send
- In the To field of the new email, enter in the addresses: spam@wustl.edu
- Ensure the body of the email is empty
- Modify the subject and remove “FW:” so that only the original message subject shows
- Send the email
If you need to report a legitimate message that has been incorrectly marked as SPAM:
- Use the same steps as above, but in the To field of the new email, enter in the addresses: notspam@wustl.edu
Note: If you see similar messages continuing to be marked incorrectly, or you do not have Microsoft Outlook, please contact support.
