Connecting to a printer

Troubleshooting printers

Changing default printer:
  1. Search for Control Panel in Windows search box (lower left).
  2. Open Control Panel (desktop app).
  3. Under category Hardware and Sound, choose View Devices and printers.
  4. In the list of Printers, right-click the printer name, choose Set as default printer.
  5. Note that you may also set your Printing preferences for the selected printer here.

Adding a Network printer:
  1. Search for Control Panel in Windows search box (lower left).
  2. Open Control Panel (desktop app).
  3. Under category Hardware and Sound, choose View Devices and printers.
  4. At the top of this window, select Add a printer.
  5. The printer may appear in the list that is automatically generated. If so, click the printer to select, and choose Next.
    • If the printer did not show up in the list, choose The printer I want isn’t listed.
    • Select Find a printer in the directory…, and then hit Next.
    • Enter the printer’s name (or the first part of the printer’s name) in the Name field, and hit Find Now.
    •  Select the printer name in the list at the bottom of the window, and hit OK.
  6. The printer will install. You will have the option of setting the printer as your default, and printing a test page once the install is complete.

Mac Printing (Shared IT Services)

In Shared IT Services, printers are added in the Self Service application. To add a printer, open Self Service in the dock (or go to Finder > Applications > Self Service).

Sign into Self Service with your WUSTL Key.

Click on Printers under Categories in the right-hand navigation, and locate the printer in the list, or use the search field in the upper-right corner to search on the printer name.

Click the Install button for the printer(s) you would like to add. You may need to enter your WUSTL key the first time you print to a newly added printer.
