Email Client Setup: Thunderbird

× Medical School Students, Faculty, and Staff:

  • Thunderbird, and other IMAP/POP/STMP email clients, are no longer supported for the School of Medicine.
  • Please visit our Medical School Email Changes page for information specific to the recently announced email changes.
  1. On the Tools menu, click Account Settings.
  2. On the Account Settings page, click on Account Actions, then select Add Email Account.
  3. On the next screen, enter the following information:
    • Your Name: your name as it should appear on outgoing messages
    • Email Address: your email address
    • Password: your WUSTL KEY password
  4. Thunderbird will fail to connect with the information given. This is normal. It will then prompt you for a manual configuration. Enter the following information:
    • Incoming: IMAP | | 143 | Autodetect | Autodetect
    • Outgoing: SMTP | | 587 | Autodetect | Autodetect
    • Username:
      • If your WUSTL Key username matches the first part of your email address, enter:
      • If your WUSTL Key username differs from the first part of your email address, enter:
  5. Click Re-test, then click Done.
  6. To add folders from your Office 365 WUSTL account beyond the Inbox and Trash, right click on your account in the left-hand pane and click on Subscribe to view other folders.
