WashU IT to update WashU Key eligibility, strengthen access controls in June

Beginning next month, WashU IT will implement revised parameters for determining when WashU Keys are disabled.

The policy change is designed to strengthen the university’s information security posture by ensuring that only individuals with a legitimate need and an active WashU status retain access to university systems and data.

Under the new criteria, WashU Keys for active students, faculty, staff, guests, volunteers, alumni, trustees and retirees will remain enabled. Accounts that do not meet the new eligibility guidelines will be disabled.

During the last several months, WashU IT has reviewed all existing WashU Key accounts in anticipation of this update. Faculty and staff can review the full logic used to automatically disable WashU Keys—organized by affiliation type, such as student, faculty, staff and guest—on the “When will my WashU Key be disabled?” webpage. Additional details are available on the Access Services After Leaving WashU and WashU Key Eligibility Changes webpages.
