January 2021: Skype for Business Retirement

Microsoft has announced the retirement of Skype for Business in 2021.  All Skype for Business functionality has been replicated and expanded upon in Teams, Microsoft’s collaboration application.

Washington University Information Technology will retire Skype for Business in January 2021 and is pleased to announce that we are ready to support the core functionality of Microsoft Teams.

The Microsoft Teams functions which are replacing Skype for Business functionality include, but are not limited to:

  • One-one and group chat
  • Scheduled and ad-hoc video calls with
    – Screensharing
    – Virtual collaborative whiteboards
    – Ability to record the call’s audio and video
  • and File sharing with simultaneous collaborative editing.

Get started now with Microsoft Teams.  Available online through Office 365, as a Desktop application (preferred as it provides full functionality), and as a mobile app for both iOS and Android through the App Store and Google Play respectively.
