Recent crime reports on and around campus should serve as a reminder that there are things we can do to keep ourselves safe. Here are a few precautions for avoiding robberies and carjackings.

  • Use Protective Services’ Security Escort or Afterhours Neighborhood Shuttle.
  • Be observant and aware of your surroundings.
  • Adopt a vigilant, confident, and defensive mindset.
  • Trust your instincts.
  • Walk in pairs or groups.
  • Keep to well-lit, well-traveled areas.
  • Carry your belongings close to your body.
  • While in your car, keep doors locked and windows rolled up.
  • Avoid sitting in a parked car.
  • Check the interior of your car before entering.
  • If you are robbed, comply with the robber’s instructions and be a good witness, noting his/her description.
