Halfway through the Fall semester, 760 faculty and over 10,000 students are using Canvas for their primary Learning Management System. Right now courses can use either Canvas or the legacy system, Blackboard. Come Summer 2019 Blackboard will no longer be available for active teaching and all courses will use Canvas.
Faculty who are not yet teaching in Canvas should prepare to use Canvas by signing up using the form located on HelloCanvas.wustl.edu. By signing up, you will receive a personal Demo Course as well as access to communications and training materials.
Here is some feedback we’ve heard from instructors using Canvas this semester:
- “I’ve found it to be extremely intuitive” – Shannon Woodcock, University College
- “My experience with Canvas has been off the charts!!!… I’m probably only using part of the functionality but the part that I’m using is awesome.” – Tom McCain, Olin Business School
- “I’ve found the support to be immensely helpful” – Rob Morgan, Arts & Sciences
The WashU Canvas Project Team includes two Instructional Support Specialists who offer on-campus training and migration sessions for Canvas Adopters. Sessions will be held at the Danforth and Medical campuses. More information is available at HelloCanvas.wustl.edu/training.
Two recordings of live demos of the Canvas system are available for viewing online.
If you want a live demo for your groups or departments, you can request Demo Sessions. Our Instructional Support Specialists will present an overview of Canvas followed by a brief question and answer period or focus on a topic of your choice. We’ll coordinate a session date and location with you.
To request a demo, please email HelloCanvas@wustl.eduat least two weeks in advance of your earliest preferred date. Your email request should include:
- Contact person, email address, and phone number
- School and Department
- Preferred dates and times
For those already using Canvas, technical support is available 24 hours per day, 7 days per week to all faculty, staff, and students. Click the “Help” button from the Global Navigation Menu to access 24/7 Canvas Support via chat or phone. Help is customized for faculty, staff, and students.
