Nov 1, 2018 – SharePoint Migration

Washington University Information Technology’s current infrastructure supporting the SharePoint 2010 and 2013 environments will no longer be supported as of June 2019 and June 2020 respectively, due to end-of-life conditions for the underlying technology stack.  The new infrastructure underlying SharePoint 2013 continues to be supported until April 2023.

Washington University Information Technology wil migrate your current site to one of the platforms below.  You will be notified of the migration platform decision and schedule well in advance.

Washington University IT SharePoint Shared Services has new criteria for what content belongs in SharePoint.  The framework below defined destination platforms.

Framework that define on which platform sites will be hosted
SharePoint WCM OnPrem Criteria

  • Sites that have BJC Users
  • Sites that have 3rd Party/Custom Solutions
  • List with item tracking turned on

  • Site must not have any BJC Users

  • Sites with confidential information must be vetted by the security office
  • Sites must not contain sharepoint Workflows

No Outages are expected during the SharePoint migration.

Please take note of the following changes:

  • Your site interface could look different.
  • WashU IT will only support out of the box functionality.  Any current customizations will need to be tested and supported by the client.
  • User testing of your site must be completed prior to go-live for your new site.
  • Training is available for users but is not required.   A training schedule will be released prior to your migration.
