Smells Like “Team” Spirit in WashU IT Enterprise Applications

Working at WashU’s North or West Campuses, it could be easy to feel cut off from the energy and activities associated with university life. Not so when the EA Fun Team is around!

The Fun Team is one of several initiatives, along with regular town hall meetings and video updates from Enterprise Applications (EA) leadership, that was established to prepare EA for its reorganization this past summer.

The goal of forming the Fun Team, in particular, is “to create a fun and friendly atmosphere for our employees to build relationships and really enjoy the workplace,” said Maria Moyer, business alignment lead for Enterprise Applications and integral member of the Fun Team. “Our employees work very hard and long hours, and it is [the Fun Team’s] mission to ensure that we continue to work hard, but play harder.”

Moyer has been an active member of the Fun Team since its founding in March 2017. Since then, the group has hosted monthly events, including a Star Wars Day celebration, a barbecue for National Hot Dog Day and a Halloween party. Comprised of 12 members from EA and Departmental Applications, the team meets once a month to plan its events.

In addition to staff parties, the Fun Team also organizes regular charity drives supporting WashU’s commitment to the St. Louis community. The Push for Pencils campaign in August collected more than 1000 items for St. Louis Area children in need. The group participated in Warner’s Winter Warmup (a coat drive) in November, and plans to participate in the Adopt a Family program in December.

One key to the Fun Team’s success is the sense of competition that has sparked between the different office suites. Many of the Fun Team’s events include contests where suites compete for bragging rights and other prizes. “People really look forward to our events each month…We all spend so much time with each other throughout the day that it’s nice to be able to cut loose and have a little fun,” said Moyer.

The EA Fun Team is always welcoming new members. If you also “Take Fun…Seriously,” email EAFun@wustl.edu to get involved.
